Field Work Practicum

As part of reinforcement activities, social work practicum provides learning opportunities to develop and enhance professional practice skills. Field work opportunities are provided to the students in various agencies working in the development sectors and open communities both rural and urban. Learning is aided through observation, analysis of social realities and experience of participation in designing and providing social work intervention. Field work further help the learner to acquire beginning skills, practice those already acquired, and master them from simple to complex. The field work programme consists of the following learning opportunities:-

  • Orientation programme
    Orientation provides information regarding the importance and place of the practicum in social work education. Information is provided for the purpose, functions and ethics in professional practice. The orientation programme is conducted during the beginning of academic session for minimum of 10 days. Various social work professionals and educators are invited to give lectures and conduct skill based sessions to prepare the learner to work in various areas of social work.

  • Field Visits
    Field visits are organized following the orientation programme to provide exposure to and understanding of the services provided in response to people’s need.

  • Concurrent field work
    It is an ongoing learning of practice opportunity to develop intervention skills in reality situations. Concurrent field work entails learning social work practice for two days, each week of the semester. The learners are placed both in agencies and in open communities to initiate and participate in direct service delivery. The concurrent field work also provides opportunity to integrate theory into practice to acquire skills and knowledge.

  • Study Tours
    Study tour is organized in every academic year either in urban or rural areas in or other state to provide an exposure to students and appreciate innovative efforts by individuals and groups towards meeting people’s core needs, and initiate development.
